Five cable networks earned Women in Cable Telecommunications’ 2011 Signature Accolades awards for programming that offer authentic portrayals of women in multidimensional roles, the organization announced Tuesday.
TNT’s The Closer and USA’s In Plain Sight will receive Signature Accolades honors in the category of Scripted Drama/Comedy Series or Special, while Style’s Ruby and WE TV’s Downsized will earn honors in the Reality/Lifestyle Series or Special category, according to WICT officials.

ESPN’s documentary Her Story: Ten Times Over, will receive the Signature Accolades recognition in the Documentary/Biographical Series or Special category. WICT will honor the winners during its June 14 Signature Luncheon in conjunction with The 2011 Cable Show, said the organization.

“We are proud that the cable industry demonstrates its commitment to programming that depicts such strong female characters in central roles. WICT is thrilled to have the opportunity to award these five original programs from these outstanding companies with the 2011 Signature Accolades,” says Maria E. Brennan, WICT President & CEO in a statement.

Set the DVR’s The Closer is back July 11th on TNT for 10 episodes!

TNT is re-opening The Closer.
EW has learned exclusively that TNT just ordered six additional episodes of its veteran hit, extending its final season to prepare for a possible spin-off. The network expects to air the previously announced 10 episodes this summer, followed by five in the winter … and now another six in the summer of 2012.
The final six will be the swan song for star Kyra Sedgwick (Brenda Leigh Johnson), while likely introducing a new central character who will headline the spin-off.

The Closer star Kyra Sedgwick has signed on to join Jeffrey Dean Morgan in the Ole Bornedal-directed Ghost House Pictures thriller Dibbuk Box. Lionsgate has set the film for October 28, 2011 release. Sedgwick will play a mom whose youngest child becomes strangely attached to an antique wooden box purchased at a yard sale. The girl’s behavior becomes erratic and her divorced parents get the carvings on the box deciphered and find the box contains a spirit bent on devouring its human host. Juliet Snowden & Stiles White wrote the script and Ghost House’s Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert will produce. Sedgwick, who’s finishing her seventh and final season of The Closer, is repped by UTA and Impression Entertainment.
