Kyra Sedgwick was having a very Hollywood start to her day. “I was picking up dog poop at the moment of the call. Very glamorous,” says the star of The Closer, up for her fifth Emmy.

But really, says Sedgwick, “I’m thrilled honestly. I never expect it. It’s such a pat on the back and a vote of confidence. Do a lot of people get nominated five years in a row? Is that a normal thing?” she wonders. “It’s so incredibly nice and validating in the middle of a hard work week.”

So far, it’s all work and no play for Sedgwick’s tough cop. “I’m hoping we finish early enough to go out to dinner,” she says.

Her husband Kevin Bacon is in Canada working, but “it’s Kevin’s birthday today. (He’s turning 52.) It’s a double good day.” — Donna Freydkin
